N = Novelty Grade
Vs
I = Industrial Grade
Industrial glowsticks are great tools. They can put out a useful
amount of light for up to 12 hours. We get a lot of questions at
Extreme Glow about the differences between industrial Cyalume
Sticks and our novelty grade 6-inch wrapped or unwrapped
glowsticks. Obviously there is a difference in price. The
industrial glowsticks start out at $1.60 ea while you can
purchase the novelty grade 6-inch glowsticks in the $0.48 - $0.75
range.
The picture above on the left shows what novelty grade
glowsticks look like when compared to industrial glowsticks
immediately after both have been activated. Notice that there is
not much difference between the two initially in brightness. The
right hand picture above is a picture of the same glowsticks
after they have been glowing for 7+ hours. Notice that the
Industrial glowsticks are far superior and still useful as
compared to the Novelty glowsticks.
If you are buying for safety Industrial glowsticks are your best
bet. If you are purchasing for parties and fun events, the
novelty grade glowsticks are a great deal for a night’s worth of
fun.
One of the most common assumptions in glow is that the color
white is the brightest of all of our offerings in either 4 or 6
inch sticks. That is not the case. Actually, white is at the
bottom of the Extreme Glow brightness scale for both intensity
and duration. The glowsticks are lined up in the appropriate
order for both intensity and glow duration.
The 4 inch the colors from brightest to dimmest are:
Green,
Yellow,
Red,
Pink,
Blue,
and White.
This chart show burn times for 4" sticks.
For the 6 inch sticks the colors follow the same pattern from
brightest to dimmest, but the choices are a bit different:
Green,
Yellow,
Red,
Pink,
Blue, and
Purple.
This chart show burn times for 6" sticks.
Please keep these charts in mind when ordering sticks for events
that require a high output of light for a glowstick.

Glowsticks turn a different color after activating them. This
can be very confusing to customers that have not ordered
glowsticks before. For example, blue glowsticks are filled with
clear liquid and look white. Pink and Purple glowsticks are made
from a combination of red and blue. Purple has more of the clear
liquid that makes blue, so before activation, a purple stick looks
"more pink" than the pink stick which is a bit darker.
The picture above shows what the glow sticks look like before
activation. If you are confused about the color of a glowstick
before activation, the picture should help you sort out which
stick you have.
